THE
B.T.L. EDUCATIONAL TRUST FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT
is one of the Premier Educational Organisations working for the upliftment
of rural poor people. Its origin dates back to 1979. The key figure
responsible for all the activities is Sri. B.T. Lakshman, an N.R.I,
at present staying in U.S.A .
The
important aims and objectives of the Trust are :
- To
start and manage Educational Institutions with the Primary object
of giving Education to rural people.
- To
start and manage Technical Institutions with the primary object of
giving occupational oriented Education to rural people.
- To build
and manage Rural health dispensaries.
- To create
endowments to award financial assistance to Rural students to pursue
education.
- To assist
and promote student exchange and cultural exchange programmes between
India and U.S.A.
To raise necessary funds and create a healthy environment, a Foundation
called "B.T.L. Foundation for International Services" was founded in
U.S.A. during 1979.
THE
B.T.L. INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT was founded in the year
1997-98.
The
Institute is a constituent college of both Bangalore University & Visveswaraiah
Technical University and has the privilege of being affiliated to both
these Universities and is approved by AICTE.
The
Institute is situated in the eastern part of Bangalore Metropolitan
city on a sprawling campus in the midst of huge Industrial Estates of
Karnataka and Tamilnadu. The campus is an ideal and good environmental
one for study, with beautiful trees and lawns, surrounding the buildings.
The
B.T.L. Institute is surrounded by a large number of medium and small
scale industries. The faculty and the students have been approached
to conduct a technical survey of these industries. An excellent opportunity
exists for the active involvement of the students with the Industries.
The
Institute offers courses of study (4 Years duration) leading to Bachelor's
(B.E.) Degree in Engineering in :
- Computer
Science
- Electronics
& Communication
- Mechanical
- Information
science
The
Student intake is 60 in each branch of the faculty.
TITLE
AND DURATION OF THE COURSE
The course shall be called the degree course in Bachelor of Engineering
which is abbreviated as B.E.
The course shall be of four academic years duration and conducted in
eight semesters and each semester having a duration of 16 weeks.
The calendar of events in respect of the course shall be fixed by the
University from time to time.
The examination in all the subjects of all the eight semesters shall
be conducted at the end of each semester except when there are no candidates
taking examination for any subjects.
ADMISSION
AND ELIGIBILITY
Admission for the first year of the course shall be open to the students
who have passed the two year Pre-University examination (Science) conducted
by the Karnataka State Pre-University Board.
OR
10+2 the Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E) with Physics,
Chemistry and Mathematics as optional subjects and English as a subject
of study.
OR
Those who have passed any other examinations recognized by the University
as equivalent there to.
The Candidates shall have secured a minimum of 50% of marks in the aggregate
of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of second year Pre-University
Examination or at the end of 12th year public examination. The B.Sc.,
graduates shall also be considered eligible for admission to first year
B.E course if they have secured minimum of 50% of marks in the aggregate
of subjects
(i) Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or
(ii) Physics, Mathematics and Electronics.
(iii) Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science .
The
three years Diploma Holders in appropriate branch of Engineering granted
(awarded) by the Board Technical Education, Government of Karnataka,
or any other Diploma qualification considered equivalent there to by
this University, who have secured not less than 50% of the total maximum
marks in the final examination of the Diploma course are eligible for
admission for the first year of B.E. course in appropriate branch. However,
there shall not be any exemption of any subject at the B.E. degree course.
The
candidates belonging to Scheduled castes and Scheduled tribes and any
other groups classified by the Government of Karnataka for such purpose
from time to time shall be considered eligible for the admission if
they have passed the qualifying examinations giving eligibility for
B.E admission with 10% less marks i.e. with 40% of marks. However the
candidates shall take qualifying examination like C.E.T. etc.
The
candidates other than those, who have passed the examination of Pre-University
examination Board, Engineering Diploma Examination of the Board of Technical
Education Karnataka and B.Sc. degree examination from any of the Universities
of Karnataka state, have to obtain eligibility certificate for seeking
admission to B.E degree course from Visveswaraiah Technological University,
Belgaum or from concerned Engineering college to Karnataka State. The
University will notify dates for the issue of eligibility certificates
from time to time.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Merit cum means of Rs. 1500/- per annum are awarded to one student in
each faculty. Such students should have secured the highest marks in
the aggregate of all the subjects of the academic year in the first
attempt but not less than 80% Students are also eligible for the award
of several scholarships awarded by the state and Central Government.
These will be notified from time to time.
Institution
has plans to develop a sports and hostel complex at Mallasandra about
1.5 Kms from the college campus. Sports complex providing indoor stadium
for shuttle badminton, table tennis and Gym. Also 400 Meter track for
conducting field, track events and cricket/hockey ground.
At
present institute has hostel facility for accommodating 40 boys and
10 girls in Bangalore City. Students commute by the college bus. For
the next year we have plan to extend the facility to 80 boys and 20
girls. College Campus in 5 Acres of land
Staff Quarters, sports & hostel complex : 11 Acres of land
College bus facility -. 2 buses .
LIBRARY
:
The institution even though a budding one has a good library and has
a collection of books and journals.In all the faculties of Engineering
Courses the college is offering, including Science and Mathematics.
The library has an open access system enabling the students to take
up any book for reference to browsing. The library opens at 9.30 a.m.
and closes at 5.00 p.m. and during examination time these hours are
extended further. A provision of Rs. Two Lakhs is made in the budget
for the academic year 1998-99 for the purchase of books and Journals.
The library will be housed in the new lecture hall wing from the academic
year 1998-99.
SPORTS
FACILITY :
The College has a good sports field suitable for playing cricket, football,
volley ball etc., At present an inter institutional tournament in cricket
and athletics is conducted and a suitable shield is instituted in the
name of Sri. B.T. Lakshman, Chairman of the Trust. In addition inter
class competitions are being held in athletics. Efforts are being made
to provide indoor game facility during the next academic year.
ADDITIONAL
COACHING FACILITY :
The faculty members are available for the guidance and clearing of any
doubts in the lessons everyday for 45 minutes before the commencement
of the college. This additional facility is provided to avoid the habit
of students going for private tutions.
TRANSPORT
FACILITY :
Bangalore Transport Service is running city service buses from Kempegowda
Bus Stand and from K.R. Market/Kalasipalyam bus stand. In addition all
the buses that go to Hosur will stop in front of college: On an average
a bus will pass via college within a frequency of 10 minutes. The trust
which is managing the college has a fleet of two buses which can be
used for tours and industrial visits of the students. The college proposes
to run a bus for the benefit of the student, if there is sufficient
response from the students.
HOSTEL
FACILITY :
Hostel
complex providing accommodation for about 400 boys and 200 girls The
Institute is well equipped with the laboratory and library facilities
and Qualified and experienced faculty members for the 1st year.
Separate Hostel accommodation for men and women students has been made
available in rented buildings at Chandapura town, 1 KM from the college
campus. A Vegetarian mess is run on the advice of the mess committee
consisting of the warden and student representatives. The monthly mess
charges (dividing system) are about Rs. 800/-. The management of the
hostels and messes is under the overall charge of a warden who is a
senior Teacher in the college. The students are required to abide by
the hostel/mess rules in force. All the rooms are reasonably furnished.
Indoor game and reading room facility are also provided. Separate canteen
facility is available for the benefit of staff and students in the campus
during the college working hours.
COUNSELLING
FOR JOB HIGHER EDUCATION :
The college has counselling facility headed by a Professor. Students
will be advised properly for procurement of Jobs or pursuing higher
education in Indian or in foreign Universities. Arrangements are also
being made for campus Interviews. The college has definite understanding
with a few local multinational companies for to fee the students to
be competitive under placement program and Campus selection. The college
has also understanding with Delaware State University USA, under student
exchange program for pursuing higher education.
CULTURAL
ACTIVITIES :
For the benefit of students who are interested in the cultural activities,
efforts are under way to form an association under the leadership of
an experienced teacher to promote cultural activities such as drama,
music, debating, quiz solving etc.
ADMINISTRATION
:
B.T.L. Educational Trust is the sole authority for the administration,
expansion, development and management of the college Hostels etc. The
Governing Council which has been constituted in accordance with the
Provision of University Act is responsible for normal academic policy
matters of the college. The governing council consists of members representing
management, members nominated by University, A.I.C.T.E., State Government,
one staff member nominated by Principal, one local person who will be
generally an industrialist. The Principal is responsible for the day
to day administration of the college in matters connected with the academic
activities.
